建议你转行，土木在美国找工作非常难，现在已经萎缩了。建议你转成EE或者CS，找工作会容易千百倍。我特别后悔自己选了土木，其实读个CS的硕士比读个土木的PhD容易多了，而且找工作比土木的PhD好找太多了。我周围很多本科比我差的人，由于读了CS都在美国找到好工作了。
如果你坚持非土木不读，建议你去专业排名前十的学校，这样在你paper很多而且导师很给力的情况下，找工业界和高校或许有点机会。如果你申请不到好学校，那就转行吧，或者别出国。
你要是去这么一般的学校读个土木PhD，按照现在就业形势的日益严峻，等你毕业的时候，别说在美国找工作，相信你回国去高校都没机会了。现在国内高校招人也是水涨船高，和几年前也不一样了。

据我了解，申请做陈根达教授的博士生很多，所以竞争性很强。
土木工程无论在哪个国家都直接关系到人民的日常生活，所以工作机会多，在美国也是一样的，即使在经济萧条时期，找工作也比较容易。但是本科毕业生就比较难了，因为美国人不愿意读博士，也很少有美国人读硕士，所以要与美国人竞争，因而处于劣势，而对于中国人来说，博士毕业后，反而容易找工作，毕竟有些更有深度的工作，本科生是做不了的。在美国土木工程在工业界的收入是中等。
