have a break before going to university
In some countries young people are encouraged to work or travel for a year between finishing high school and starting university studies.
Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for young people who decide to do this.
Currently, there is a trend that youngsters are motivated to do some part-time job or have a long-term journey for nearly a year before they go to study in university. Anyway, different people have different views on this activities. Some people disagree with this, saying it will cost too much time for a person in his or her most precious period of life.
It is manifest that there are a vast number of advantages to have some working experiences or traveling outlook. To begin with, I suppose that this is a wonderful opportunity to have a rest and ease their mind. Apparently, students have suffered from high stress in order to enter a better university; therefore, it is imperative that the young alt should be urged to work or travel periodically to have a break. What is more, it is crucial to broaden their horizon and expand their social knowledge before going to study in a university. As I know, many students only focus on the knowledge they can learn from school which was pretty limited and they hardly know about the outside world. Nevertheless, doing some job or have a trip not only can provide them with the comprehensive knowledge of the outside world, but also can make them understand what is needed in the employment after graation, as well as getting a clear perspective of what they are hoping to do.
Indeed, these activities acquaint students with an overall view of the world, but some disadvantages also exist sometimes. Working or traveling over a year seems to waste too much time for a young person. By contrast, those who do not take up a year to work or travel will be much more competitive when applying for a job because they will graate a year earlier. Besides, plenty of safe factors should be taken into consideration, such as traffic accidents, infectious diseases and so on.
Having considered all the argument above, doing some activities out of school is very reasonable and necessary, despite that there is some negative factors which they should notice. Hence, In order to promote the students』 overall development, parents ought to motivate their children to have a look at the world instead of staying at home or school.
