我絲毫不懷疑，美國的老人依舊要堅持說他們又忙碌又活躍這一事實，可以歸為個人主義被推崇到了愚蠢的地步。他們以自主為榮，崇尚自立，恥於依賴子女。美國人在其憲法中規定了許多人權，但他們卻很奇怪地忘掉了老年人應享受子女贍養這一權利，因為這也是因提供養育服務而產生的權利和義務。有誰能夠否認，父母年輕時為子女何等地辛勞，子女小有病痛必徹夜不眠地照顧，在子女還沒有學會說話時給他們換洗尿布，耗費二十餘載將他們養育成人，教會他們自立生活。當他們年老時，就有權得到子女的贍養和孝敬。在普通的家庭生活模式中能否忘掉個人的自立及其自尊？凡是人都是先由父母養育，後來再養育自己的子女，最後則理所當然地得到子女的贍養。中國人對生活的完整理念是以家庭中的互幫互助為基礎的，所以沒有個人獨立的意識，因此，到了夕陽紅的老年時期得到子女贍養時就不會
