我絲毫不懷疑,美國的老人依舊要堅持說他們又忙碌又活躍這一事實,可以歸為個人主義被推崇到了愚蠢的地步。他們以自主為榮,崇尚自立,恥於依賴子女。美國人在其憲法中規定了許多人權,但他們卻很奇怪地忘掉了老年人應享受子女贍養這一權利,因為這也是因提供養育服務而產生的權利和義務。有誰能夠否認,父母年輕時為子女何等地辛勞,子女小有病痛必徹夜不眠地照顧,在子女還沒有學會說話時給他們換洗尿布,耗費二十餘載將他們養育成人,教會他們自立生活。當他們年老時,就有權得到子女的贍養和孝敬。在普通的家庭生活模式中能否忘掉個人的自立及其自尊?凡是人都是先由父母養育,後來再養育自己的子女,最後則理所當然地得到子女的贍養。中國人對生活的完整理念是以家庭中的互幫互助為基礎的,所以沒有個人獨立的意識,因此,到了夕陽紅的老年時期得到子女贍養時就不會
