句子中有兩個賓語時，其中指物或指事的就是直接賓語。指人（或動物）的就是間接賓語。間接賓語指受影響的事或人，直接賓語為動作的承受者，如He passes me the ball.中，me為間接賓語，the ball 為直接賓語。

比方有一句話：「我教他英文。」I teach him English.在這句話里「him」是間接賓語，「English」是直接賓語。另外有一句話：「昨天我給父親寫了一封信。」I wrote Father a letter yesterday.在這句話里「Father」是間接賓語，「a letter」是直接賓語。
