英語寫作是大學英語教學中一項重要的不可分割的組成部分。「英語寫作是英語測試的基木內容，是培養學生交際能力的主要方面，是英語教學中極為重要的環節。大學是學生發展英語寫作能力的重要時期，但是學生普遍認為英語寫作很難，因為寫作的過程需要運用很多他們不熟悉的認知策略和語言策略。很多學生抱怨說他們畏懼寫作，找不到寫作思路和切人點，無從下手。老師也普遍反應在英語寫作課堂上他們也會被這些問題困擾，找不到有效的方法來激發學生的想像力，啟發學生進行創造性思維。」「寫作是一個過程，寫作課教師應該教授的是構成寫作過程的一步步的操作方法。」。「語篇分析是語言學的新興分支學科，它主要研究句子層面之上的語言的使用和構建。」本文試通過以英語語言學中的篇章模式理論來分析一篇文章，以此讓學生理解、領會並仿寫此類篇章模式作文，以此探討提高學生寫作水平的可行性及實用性。
二、篇章模式理論
「篇章模式/語篇的組織模式（textual pattern）是語篇組織的宏觀結構。Hoey (1983:31)將組織模式定義為『構成語篇（部分語篇）的關系的組合』。語篇的組織模式作為語篇組織的宏觀結構（macrostructure），指語篇中各個主要成分的組合結果，是人們語言交際中互相遵守和期待的『語言共識』（linguistic consensus）（Winter，1994：55），在語篇的生成和理解中起著重要的作用。正如McCarthy和 Carter（2004：54）所說，『要理解一個語篇畝悶，讀者面臨的任務之一就是理解語篇不同組成成分之間的聯系。』」
語言學家Michael Hoey和 Michael McCarthy把語篇模式歸類如下：問題―解決模式、一般―特殊模式、主張-反應模式、機會-獲取模式和提問-回答模式等。下面主要介紹本文用到的一般―特殊模式和提問―回答模式。
1.一般―特殊模式（General-Particular Pattern）
「一般―特殊模式又可稱作概括―具體模式（General-Specific Pattern），該模式的宏觀結構由三個成分組成：概括陳述、具體陳述和總結陳述。總結陳述則是對語篇內容的總結，但不一定每一語篇都得有；若具體陳述已把概況陳述的觀點闡明時，總結陳述可以沒有。這種模式有兩種表現形式：一是先概況後舉例（Generalization-Example），其特點是：概括陳述闡明主題來統領整個語篇，然後具體陳述對概括陳述進行舉例論證；二是先整體後細節（Preview-Detail），其特點是：概括陳述出總體輪廓來統領整個語篇，然後具體陳述對概括論述進行具細節論證。所謂細節論證，就是採用描繪細節或通過數字統計來說明概括陳述的一般事實或一個道理。」
2.提問-回答模式（Question-Answer Pattern）
「提問-回答模式一般是在語篇的開頭提出一個問題，隨後語篇的展開主要是尋求對所提問題的令人滿意的回答。其宏觀結構是情景、提問、回答與或否定評價，但主要成分是：提問、回答。情景可有可無，肯定評價預示語篇的結束但有時也可以不出現，但若對回答是否定評價（Negative Evaluation/Rejection）則預示著模式的循環，直到令人滿意的回答。」
3.實例分析
現在以《新編實用英語綜合教程1》（第二版）中的文章British People Like Talking About the Weather為例，試分析該語篇所用的組篇模式，探討作者的行文思路，以此來技激發、提高學生的寫作能力。
1.「提問――回答」模式分析
「提問――回答」模式的宏觀結構一般由情景、提問、回答、評價四個成分迅隱彎組成。「情景」可有可無，在這個篇章中就沒有「情景」這一成分。雖然這篇文章的標題是一個陳述句，實際它暗含攜知一個問題即本篇章的「提問」成分，也是這個篇章的主題（thesis）：Why do British people like talking about the weather？整個篇章圍繞這個問題來展開。這個篇章一共4個段落，共分成三個部分，是這個問題答案的三個方面即本片中的「回答」成分：第一段是第一部分，主題句（topic sentence）是第一句，主要內容是Weather in Britain is changeable；第二部分是第二段，主題句是第一句，其內容是Some British customs are related to the weather；第三部分是第三段和第四段，第三段的前兩句是主題句，其大意是British people talk about weather frequently because it is interesting and changeable。「評價」成分在第四段，其主題句是最後一句，其內容是Talking about weather is an easy way for British people to begin their conversation。這個篇章的提問―回答模式可用圖1表示，為行文方便，用關鍵詞（key words）代替語句。

由上文分析可知，本語篇整體上運用提問―回答模式進行組篇，而一般―特殊模式在文章的三個部分均有體現。現在分別分析作者的行文思路。
第一部分（Paragraph 1）：
本段開頭第一句即主題句概括陳述（General Statement）這一段的主題：Weather in Britain is changeable。中間幾句進行具體論證（Specific Statement）：wake up→blue sky，breakfast→raining， later→fine。最後一句對本段進行總結（General Statement）：depend on→time、luck。其示意圖可用圖2表示：
第二部分（Paragraph 2）：
本段開頭第一句即主題句概括陳述（General Statement）這一段的主題：Some British customs are related to the weather。其他語句都是對這一主題句進行舉例論證：the opportunities for people to meet outside depend on the weather，a large hot breakfast is a good idea on a cold dark morning。
第三部分（Paragraphs 3&4）：
這一段開頭前兩句即主題句概括陳述（General Statement）這一段的主題：British people talk about weather frequently because it is interesting and changeable。從第三句開始作者從兩個方面進行論證解釋，其標志性詞語是Because和Another reason。第一個方面，第三句進行解釋（Specific Statement）：weather changes frequently, something to say about it/the commonest way to start a conversation；第四句第五句是舉例對第三句進行進一步論證(Even more specific)：conversations, go on to /the weather like。第二個方面：be reluctant to/personal matters，緊接後兩句是進一步對第二個方面進行進一步解釋(Even more specific): a useful way to greet/ inoffensive。最後一句是總結句同時也是對全文的總結(General statement): an easy to break the ice。其示意圖可用圖4表示：
三、對寫作教學的啟示
通過上文的分析可以很清晰的看出作者的行文思路：就某一問題的解答，作者先以提問―回答模式組篇在宏觀上定下整個篇章的基本框架；然後對每一個要點的處理，作者先表明自己的觀點（即主題句）然後運用一般―特殊模式具體論述或舉例論證，最後再整體概括。整個篇章結構清晰、層次分明、邏輯嚴謹，段落和語句之間獲得了很好的銜接與連貫。語言教師在教授篇章時，可以引導學生分析整個篇章的結構，把握作者的行文思路，然後有針對性地讓學生仿寫一篇類似的習作。例如，假如讓學生就話題How to Be Happy來寫一篇作文，教師可以用提問―回答和一般―具體模式引導學生進行構思提綱(Outline)：

提綱一旦確定，學生可以依次來進行寫作。當然，提綱的內容因人而異，上述提綱只是一個例子，但篇章整體布局可以依次而定。依據上述提綱寫出的作文可以如下：
How to Be Happy？
Happiness is the most precious thing in life. Without it, a man will feel that his ill fate has taken charge of him and the world is utterly dark and dreadful. On that account, his body grows weaker, his work slackens. Above all, he thinks he would rather die than live. "How to be happy, then?"you may ask.
Now,this is the very puzzle that we are going to solve. Firstly,do things in accordance with your conscience. That is, do to others as you would have other do to you. Secondly, pay more attention to your health, which is the root of success, for a sound constitution enables you to succeed. Thirdly, worry and sorrow are of no use at all！In case you meet with some hard situation, you must try to overcome it without any hesitation. Willpower is essential to happiness. And the last, but not the least, adopt an optimistic attitude toward life, for the world is still in making and you can have a share in it. In this way, true happiness can be obtained.
四、小結
通過上文分析可以得知：在大學英語教學中，英語教師把篇章模式理論運用於寫作教學中，通過實例分析探討作者的行文思路，學習作者的寫作技巧，通過適當的針對性的仿寫訓練，相信經過一段時間，學生的寫作能力可以獲得顯著地提高。當然，把篇章模式理論運用於寫作教學來提高學生的寫作能力，其可行性及實用性還有待於廣大語言教師在實踐中進一步地驗證。
