同一般將來時不一樣，把動詞be變為過去式，把will，shall變為過去式。例句：I didn't know if he would come.=I didn't know if he was going to come.我不知道他是否會來。

過去將來時常可用來表示過去習慣性的動作。此時，不管什麼人稱，一律用would。過去將來時有時可帶時間狀語"was/were going to + 動原"或"was/were +動詞不定式完成式"可表示未能實現的過去將來時間的動作。
