沈陽理工大學外國語學院始建於1979年,前身為沈陽工業學院外語教研室,外語部,外國語分院,2004年5月學校更名後正式命名為沈陽理工大學外國語學院。雖然學院的發展只有不足30年的歷史,但是在學校黨委的正確領導下,在學院歷屆領導班子的帶領下,在全體教職員工的支持下,沈陽理工大學外國語學院銳意進取,開拓創新,取得了驕人的業績。

外國語學院現有教職工98人,有教授2人,副教授17人,講師47人,助教25人;具有碩士學位的35人,碩士在讀34人。學院下設9個教研室和2個研究所,開設了英語專業和俄語專業,承擔全校本科生、英語專業學生、俄語專業學生以及研究生的外語教學任務。

學院教學條件良好,具備比較完備的教學和試驗設施。學院現有3間多媒體教室,3間現代化數字語言實驗室,1間同聲傳譯室和1個計算機機房。學院圖書資料室共有圖書及音像資料近3000冊(盤),供本學院教師和學生使用,為外語教學及教學研究提供了堅實的資料保障。

學院堅持以科研促教學,鼓勵教師把科研成果應用到教學實踐中。近年來,學院先後完成或在研國家級、省級、校級的研究項目26項,其中,國家級5項,省級6項,橫向課題4項,校級11項。公開發表學術論文127篇,其中核心期刊61篇。組織和參編字典、教材、教參、譯著等多種專業書籍共37部。 2006年外國語學院憑借自身的科研水平和實力,參加了普通高等教育「十一五」 國家級規劃教材《新通用大學英語》立體化系列教程的編寫項目組,並組織編寫了《大學英語閱讀教程1》,現已出版使用,反饋良好。

學院注重加強職業道德和師德建設,提高教師教學、科研的事業心和責任感,在全院形成了愛崗敬業、嚴謹治學、為人師表、勤奮工作的良好院風。2006年3月,外國語學院俄語專業教研室榮獲沈陽市總工會「五朵金花式建功立業標兵崗」榮譽稱號;2006年11月,外國語學院榮獲沈陽市教科文衛系統職業道德建設「十佳集體」的榮譽稱號;2006年12月,外國語學院榮獲「沈陽市職工職業道德建設先進集體」 榮譽稱號,2007年5月,外國語學院榮獲「沈陽市五一勞動獎狀」 的榮譽稱號。
