生活中的朋友和网上的朋友都是我业余时间和社交生活的一部分。朋友对我来说总是重要的。不论我做什么，他们都是我的支柱。不论我处于什么情况，我的好朋友们总是支持着我。没有他们，我不可能过着健康的心态平衡的生活。不久之前，我经历了一小段时间的失意。手头所有的工作都没有进展，也不再跟朋友们谈心。就这样过了一个礼拜，我的一个好朋友将我拉到一边，邀我跟她出去散步。我们谈到我的情况，她帮我一起分析我到底想干什么。真不知道如果她不在我身边，我会怎么样。
许多事情都有助于你调节心态。压力是一种十分危险而又累人的经历，往往是消沉和不幸的开始。但如果真有了压力，你应该做点什么而不光是等待，比如跟朋友说说，或是听听音乐。这样你也许就会觉得自己不该这么沮丧，这么心事重重。
在生活中，保持心态平衡是很重要的。要是心态失衡，每一天的生活都将是难熬的。大胆创新地利用业余时间将起到决定性的作用。
Unit4
A篇 玛塞娜的工作经历
进大学不久我就下定决心，在进入"现实世界"前先到国外呆一段。四年级的时候，我的大多数同学都在忙着为"现实世界"的工作面试，我却在研究怎么才能去另外一个国家工作。刚开始打听的时候，我对去哪儿，干什么都很随便。我就是很想出国，让我干什么都行。
不久我就听说了一个叫"北美学生英国大学俱乐部"的计划，像是专为想出国工作的学生制定的。它给在读或是刚毕业的学生提供工作签证，让他们能到海外工作。因为语言相通和找工作容易的关系，在六个可供选择的国家中我选择了英国。
毕业两个月后我横渡大西洋，到伦敦之前花六个礼拜把整个欧洲跑了一遍。1997年8月24日，我带着一张工作签证来到伦敦，但却没有工作，也没地方可住。我得承认那确实挺让人害怕的！到的第二天，我度过了我的第一个英国假日--银行休假日。这是个全国性的假日，到处关门歇业。直到第三天，我才去了"北美学生英国大学俱乐部"的办事处，熟悉了一下情况。在此过程中,我了解到一切有关在英国生活工作的细节。我知道了该怎么逛街，怎么写英国式的履历，交税，买健康保险，旅游，找住的地方，最重要的是，怎么找份工作。我最关心怎么找工作，因为我所带的钱已所剩无几，得尽快弄一份薪水。
事实证明找工作就像写履历一样简单！"北美学生英国大学俱乐部"计划在伦敦很有知名度，许多雇主都加入了这项计划。因此很多领域都有许多工作机会可供选择。我找工作的时候，我选择了三个不同的雇主，将自己的简历和附函传真给了他们。第一个星期我进行了三场面试，接受了我的第一个工作机会，为美林银行工作。我在美林的办公室是在一幢漂亮古老的楼房里，离白金汉宫只有两个街区。那儿的人都很友好，工作也很有意思。
适应伦敦的生活并非难事。不光如此，这儿值得一看的东西太多了。我在这儿呆了六个月，可能只走了一半我打算要去的地方。
在伦敦工作有许多好处。其中一个就是能融入到上班族中，真正领略一番英国的文化。我的大多数同事都是英国人，因此，通过大量接触英国人的日常生活，我确实觉得自己了解学习了英国的文化。其次，像这样在另一个国家生活、旅游也是很经济的，因为大部分工作都足以让你支付房租，生活费和旅游费。第三，你有机会得到宝贵的工作经历，让你的履历看起来也更加国际化。
迄今为止，到伦敦工作是我做过的最好的决定。我毫不犹豫地把它推荐给大家！
B篇 独立生活
我第一次决定离开家是在高中二年级的时候。那时我与父母相处不是很融洽。兜里装着大约一百美元,我就想着要离家出走。刚离开家三个星期,我便开始想家了。与父母一起生活完全不同于独立生活。说独立生活是一种完全不同的经历,主要有三个原因: 更具责任感,更有决策权,以及更多的创造性。
首先，明白了独立生活更需要责任感。我的父母常会分配给我一些几乎每天都必须完成的工作。只要没有完成分配给我的工作,我就会受到责骂。但是现在我独自生活了,我必须完成自己的职责,即使没有人要求我这么做。一旦没有完成，我就得独自承担相应后果。
对我来说，独立生活的另一个经验就是，现在我有更多的决策权了。现在我独自生活,父母没在身边,不能给我建议,因此我不得不更加小心谨慎了。既然现在我是独立的了,就必须自己做决定。比如,我必须在不伤害任何人的感情和不受父母的支配的情况下,做出最好的决策。
因此,通过独立生活我变得更具有创造力。我能设计自己的未来。我制定了自己要遵守的规则。我用木工工具, 设计制作自己房间里的所有家具。我写了许多歌曲, 并把它们保存在我的笔记本里,等着送给感兴趣的歌手。这对我而言是一个很好的经历,因为我常认为有创造力是世上最美好的事物。然而,当我和父母在一起的时候,我觉得自己之所以很难有创造力，就是因为我老是跟着他们的想法跑。
总之,这些就是我和父母一起的时候,以及我独处的时候会发生的事情。另外,我认为对世上所有的人来说，应先爱他们的父母,爱他们自己,然后才去爱别人。大家都应该学会独立生活,但同时也要学会关爱赡养他们的父母。对于父母教给他们的生活之道,都要一一照做。同时也要使用自由选择的权利来达到自己希望的目标。

A 篇 信息台
很小的时候我就发现，在电话里什么地方住着一个神奇的人——“信息台”，她无所不知。
初次与这个人邂逅是妈妈不在家的一天。我在工具凳旁玩耍，锤子砸伤了我的手指。痛得不得了，但没有人来安慰我。我在屋里走来走去，不住地吮着阵阵作痛的手指，最后走到了电话机旁！
我飞快摘下了听筒，贴在耳朵上。“信息台吗？”我冲着话筒说道。咔嗒两声后，耳边响起了一个细小清晰的声音。 “信息台。” “我弄伤了手指……”我哭喊着。因为有个人听我倾诉，泪水一下子就涌了出来。 “妈妈不在家吗？” “家里除了我没有外人，”我抽泣着说。 “流血了吗？” “没有，我用锤子砸伤了手指，好痛。” “你会开冰箱吗？”她问。我说，会。 “那你铲一小块冰下来，敷在手指上。” 从此以后，凡事我都打电话找“信息台”。我向她请教地理作业或数学题。
我的小鸟金丝雀死时，我告诉了“信息台”这个痛苦的消息。她试图安慰我，但我还是很伤心。我问她，“为什么鸟儿歌唱得那么好听，让所有家庭都开心，到头来还是变成了笼底的一堆羽毛呢？”她一定体会到了我深深的痛楚，因为她平静地说，“保罗，永远记住另外的世界也可以唱歌。”不知怎的，我感到好受些了。 又一天，我拿起电话问，“你怎么拼写 ‘感激’呢？” 所有这一切都发生在太平洋西北岸的一个小镇子里。我九岁时，全家搬到了波士顿。 十来岁时，那些童年的谈话从未真正从记忆中消退。这时，我体会到了她肯把时间花在小孩子身上是多么的有耐心，多么体贴，多么善良。
几年后，我去念大学途中，飞机中途在西雅图降落。我有半小时左右的转机时间。想都没想我就拨通了家乡的接线员，说“我要信息台”。
奇迹发生了，我听到了那个熟悉的细小而清晰的声音，“这里是信息台。”事先我并没想好，却分明听到自己在说，“你能告诉我怎么拼写‘感激’吗？”
好一阵子没人说话。而后有人轻轻地答道，“我想你的手指现在一定不疼了。”
我笑了。“真的还是你，”我说，“你知道那时候你对我有多重要吗？” 我告诉她这些年我常常念起她。我问她可不可以再给她打电话。 “当然可以，”她说，“说找莎丽就行了。”
三个月后我回到西雅图。一个不同的声音答道，“这里是信息台。”我说要莎丽接电话。“你是她的朋友吗？”她说。“是的，是她的老朋友，”我答道。 “很抱歉告诉你，”她说，“五个星期前莎丽去世了。” 正准备挂电话，她说，“等一等。你说你叫保罗是吗？” “是的。” “哦，莎丽留了口信给你。”她说，“告诉他我还是认为另外的世界也可以唱歌。他会明白我的意思的。” 我说了声谢谢，挂断了电话。我明白莎丽的意思。
B 篇 网络—我获取信息的主要来源
作为一种资源，国际互联网中包含了大量的信息。它覆盖面广，上网容易，提供的信息量几乎是无穷无尽的。作为获取知识的一个卓越的来源，网络正在领导着一场‘信息革命’。网络已经为世界带来巨大的变革，这种变革还在继续。要是你马上就需要最新的信息的话，除了网络你和少有其他选择。
在过去的12年中，我一直在参与技术研究。最初，我从文字参考资料中获取软件信息，后来我从光盘获取信息。网络作为一种研究工具的出现，极大地拓展知识的获取的范围，大大地降低了我们在每一项工作上所耗费的时间。
在网络上我花了大部分时间查询计算机技术信息，我把这些信息用在微软应用课堂上并在工作上提出技术性建议。工作之余，我对金融界的很多领域非常感兴趣，网络成了我的这个爱好的重大信息源。
我不能想象没有网络的日子将会怎样。尽管筛选各种信息需要花费时间，但经过多年的使用后，我发现我能快速地分析搜寻的结果并找到最合适的网址。网上的信息量多得让人难以置信，所以重要的是得记住自己要搜寻的目标而不要偏离主题。
当你能证实网上所提供的信息是准确无误的时候，网络便是一个伟大的资料库。就像其他的资源一样，网络既有好的信息，同时也有不好的信息。根据你所搜寻的目标，你可以自己判断这些资料是否相关。重要的是，不要相信你所查阅的所有东西，尽量避开个人网站，并设法先弄清楚谁是该网站的负责人，然后再接受它提供的信息。
网络使用得越多，就觉得越顺手，你就会用得更多。网络确实能帮助你节约时间，并能使你在做研究时集中资源并找出有用的信息。
总的来说，用网络查阅资料让我们有机会把效率提高好几倍。当我找到资料却没有时间去阅读的时候，我便把它打印出来留到以后阅读，或者在乘火车上下班的途中阅读。除此之外，当我找到有用的资料时，只需几秒钟的时间我就可以与我的同组成员及其他业务同事分享。这增强了我的联网能力，我可以和许多在某一领域有相同兴趣的人保持联系。
网络为快速查找信息提供了一种极好的方法。它让用户在研究开始的时候就能得知信息，而不是要等到结果发表之后。网络也提供了高度协作的工作环境，通过它可以和同事们随时交换意见.
网络是方便快捷地获取知识一种极好的方式，通过它可以访问公司的网页，发送电子邮件询问问题，研究课题，开展调查，参加一些特别专题讨论，为将来的分析收集信息，做这些事情都不用自己亲临现场。
