University of Kansas
The University of Kansas was founded in 1865 in Lawrence, which lies in the northeastern portion of the state. It is a large public university with 20,822 undergraate students enrolled and a large array of graate programs. Peterson's Guide to Competitive Colleges ranks KU as 'one of America's premier universities'. The college offers a world class ecation in the heart of the American Plains region, with a renowned computing department that was the developer of the seminal Lynx text based web browser. It is currently ranked #85 on U.S. News and World Report's list of America's Best Colleges.
Kansas State University
Kansas State University, often shortened to the term K-State, was founded in 1863 in Manhattan, Kansas. The institution enrolls 18,761 students, making it the second-largest college in the state of Kansas. Since 1986, Kansas State has had more total Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater and Udall Scholars than any other state university in the country. KSU is ranked #124 by U.S. News and World Report. Among its many excellent academic programs is an agricultural department that focuses on the native Great Plains plant and animal wildlife. K-State researchers were also the inventors of the equipment necessary for LASIK eye surgery.
Wichita State University
Almost 90 percent of the students at Wichita State University reside within the state of Kansas, a legacy that demonstrates this institution's commitment to a world-class ecation at a local site. The university was founded in 1895 and is one of six universities governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. Currently, there are 10,929 undergraate students enrolled at Wichita State University. The college's baseball team has been the winningest team in college baseball for 31 years and is a favorite place for students and faculty to unwind after class.
Fort Hays State University
Fort Hays State University is a public institution that was founded in 1902 in Hays, a small college town located in the central part of Kansas. The 7,864 undergraates on campus chose from over 60 major fields of study, including a selection of associate degrees. Fort Hays has long been committed to a 'high-tech', 'high-touch' vision, which means a drive to integrate technology with human needs. The result is almost complete wireless access on campus and an array of online courses.
Washburn University
Founded in 1865 in Topeka, Kansas, Washburn University is a thriving public institution in the heart of the Midwest today. Washburn is ranked sixth in the Midwest among U.S. News and World Report master's level universities. There are currently 6,297 undergraates enrolled at Washburn enjoying the small class sizes and intimate setting available at this institution. The university offers more than 200 academic programs ranging from certificates to professional degrees in business, law and nursing.
