Pursue Sport Pursue Beauty
In China, the term Sport and the term Physical Ecation are exchangeable literally and practically. That is not right. For me sport is a way to feel the thrilling experience of life; pursuing nothing but beauty. To promote sports spirit I ran for the presidency of the Athletics Department in Student Union rather than the president of the Union.
Running for the position had no surprises, not only because I was well known as an athlete in the basketball court and track and field, but also because nobody was interested in the position. Still I was excited and I swore I would make sports exciting to everybody on campus.
For the first organized activity, I chose what I was good at —basketball. Before the sophomore tournament, I organized a less serious game in order to invite students, interests in sports and basketball. But the survey result disappointed me: only five teams from different classes were interested in a basketball tournament. No way could NBA games be exciting with only five teams to compete with each other; audiences would get bored without long term expectation and anticipation. “So what should we do?” I asked. “Nothing,” one vice president replied. “There should be something that we can do to make it right,” I said hopefully. “If girls could join that would be good,” a boy tried. t.qq.com/dalianliuxue000 aBingo, that’ s great, we could modify the rule for our basketball game,” a girl added. We shouted, yelled, argued, and eventually, we agreed: our game would have three players instead of five, regardless of sex and age while teams are only split by Junior and Senior, and even teachers could join in the senior game.
At the end of twenty days’ solicitation, we got thirty-two teams registered in total; almost all with boys and girls mixed, and five teams with teachers included. In consideration of so many new-comers for basketball, we slightly changed the rules: we changed the three seconds violation into five and eased the traveling violation, and made each half of the game be 15 minutes. “This is not ‘Basketball, anymore; it is ‘our basketball’,” the girl who had first suggested changing the rules claimed.
The basketball tournament changed the atmosphere of campus. People started becoming interested in sports, which brought them excitement, relief, and laughs. Sports added so much fun to our lives and it also changed our attitude to our studies and team-ship.
The success of the game also brought credit for me. After the game, I was assigned to take charge in organizing 6th YHHS Recreational Sports Meeting, YHHS Spring Sports Meeting, and YH High School Sophomore Basketball Tournament. I learned so much in organizing these events, and I was proud of my team. Without their enthusiastic support I wouldn’ t have enjoyed so much of the work - an opportunity to pursue something - beauty that gave me the same feeling as winning a sport game。

申請Harvard University哈佛大學Essay範文 "A special Performance"
I stood behind the curtains listenign to the applause to the previous act. I exhaled, realizing that this was a moment that fulflled my childhood wish. Tonight was special because instead of an alto aria or a jazz lick, I had prepared a song unique to my identity. I curled my fngers around the microphone and waited impatiently as the curtains opened.
My love for performance stemmed from my appreciation of music as a child. In the city in China where I spent the frst ten years of my life, I never found a choir to join and never laid eyes on a grand piano. nonetheless, I treasured my passion for song and sought ways to bring music into my life. I sang with our old record player when I was barely tall enough to reach it. On certain afternoons, my best friend and I would tape bed sheets to the ceiling as curtains and invite neighbors to come listen. There, we sang in et, danced, and bowed while clasping each other's hands. Captured in our own musical sanctuary, we never noticed the hours that passed by.
Music evokes in me the emotions that words and pictures cannot. I also revel in the intellectual challenges that music offers. I fnd it thrilling to tackle diffcult, delicious repertoire, and I enjoy composing my own melodies. Through music, I can share and celebrate my past. When I was asked to share my cultural talents at my high school, I looked for a song that my mother sang when I was young, but I could not fnd the sheet music. A week before tonight, I sat down by the old piano in the practice room at school.www.liuxue.la With only the old tune ringing faintly in my mind, my hands soon took a life of their own and experimented with chords, arpeggios, and trills. I superimposed these on the original melody and composed variations. My voice, too, frolicked with the piano as I sang the tune repeatedly. I was lost in another musical paradise. I felt like a child again, tucked under the covers, listening to my mother's song as I drifted away to dreams.
Now, dressed in an old Chinese dress that my mother had worn in her youth, I stepped onto the empty stage illuminated by pale blue light. I held the microphone up to my lips and smiled before starting. Then, I brought to life the beautiful ballad that had brightened my childhood in China. My mind overfowed with warm memories of that faraway city as I lulled the audience with my melody. When I caught my mother's face in the audience, I knew she nestled in the same air of nostalgia.
Music allows me to present my native culture and contribute to the diversity in my community. It has stimulated my mind and provided an outlet for my creativity. To me, nothing is more pleasurable than being imaginative. Carrying my childhood love of music through my teenage years has been a gratifying experience, and I look forward to continuing in my undergraate years.
The beauty of this student's essay is that she opens herself up to us, the readers. She starts with a catchy opening, explaining in rich detail how she is standing behind the curtain and why the night is especially meaningful to her. We can feel what she feels as she stands there. She gives a detailed visual description and explains her thoughts as well.
The author then explains the roots of her interest in music. By sharing her childhood experience, she demonstrates how this has been a lifelong passion for her. We can imagine her as a child with her friend, putting on performances for the neighbors. Knowing how an author's interest in a given feld of study began can add depth and dimension to the reader's overall characterization of the student.
In the third paragraph, our musician shares what goes through her mind. This is valuable to admissions offcers because they can see her ability to analyze her thoughts and her level of self awareness. Self refection demonstrates maturity and the capability to take a step back from a situation and see the deeper meaning of it. She explains why she is so tied to music and why it is an intellectual experience for her to recall her childhood song from memory and slowly piece it together.
Through her essay, we understand why this specifc performance holds such great meaning. We see the connection to her past and to her mother. She makes several accomplishments through her writing—sharing an extracurricular interest, touching on her childhood growing up in China, revealing the intellectual side of her talent, and showing the connection that she has to her heritage and her family.www.liuxue.la After reading this essay, the admissions offcers probably felt that they had a deeper understanding of who this student was and that she was someone they'd like to get to know better.

(Resume)
申請藝術類學生需提交作品集;
如實習與所申請專業相關,需提交實習證明;
全面了解美國大學的錄取人數和獎學金發放比例;
在文書寫作中有效地挖掘升華自己的優勢,在現有基礎上加強競爭力;
I still remember when the monitor first lit up and the grey box roared to my life. She had me at hello, or in this case, with the first welcome screen, circa 1999. Initially no one knew how to operate her. Out of curiosity, I worked days in front of her foreign face, eventually coming closer to her intricate soul. Trying out new DOS commands and seeing results became my greatest happiness. The complex visual calculations and efficiency on the computer brought me immediate satisfaction. While some kids defined the high points of their adolescent lives as learning to ride a bike or hitting a home run, my moment of change was switching from Windows 98 to XP. It was ring this childhood that I established a passion for Computer Science.
Unfortunately, at the age of 13, I inlged in the online game, the Mysterious Land. The game played perfectly into my teenage whims: when I sought a sense of accomplishment, it rewarded me. Where I sought friends, it gave me an entire network of people relying on me. With just a little bit of focus, I reached the highest level, the peak of gaming perfection! In the first two years of middle school, I burnt the midnight oil and slept less than three hours in the weekend for the first time; with great guilt, I played truant for the first time; I even starved in order to use my lunch money to buy rechargeable cards. It sounds crazy now, but that addiction scratched my soul and demanded more. Undoubtedly, my grades fell so much that I went from the top to bottom.
After my astonishment when I first met with the crazily low scores, I became apathetic. After a ‘lovely’ summer vacation fulfilled with dazzling equipments and illusory friendships in Mysterious Land, I got in Grade Eight. I still played the whole night, sleeping in one class after another. Deeply addicted, I sometimes couldn’t find the differences between the real and the virtual world. So many times I acted like a bossy team leader while doing sports at school, thus many people had an unfavorable impression of me. However, the obstacles I met in real life only furthered my addiction: the less love and friends I got, the more I became convinced that I should devote myself to the game.
Nevertheless, the nightmares all came to an end when my class adviser looked deeply in my eye on getting my final results in the 8th grade. When I got home, I yelled out in the game but people deemed me insane instead of consoling me. A somber sadness embraced me, restricting my breath. I was caught and could not escape. That reality brought me back to life. Feeling fresh air around me instead of the vacuum of virtual happiness, I was freed.
Since then I began my struggle to abstain from Mysterious Land. I limited my game time from six hours to one hour step by step; I regulated my schele and slept from 10p.m to 6a.m every day; I asked my parents to keep my pocket money, and I cleared all my debts in the game. When I finally felt myself far enough away from Mysterious Land, I believed everything was set. I opened the Program Files, clicked on the familiar folder, and pressed the delete button. At last, I clicked on YES with my shaking hand. “Goodbye.” I said in my heart, deeply lost in mind. On finishing this, I sat on my bed and watched screen-saver changing irregularly all night long. As soon as the sun rose at 5:50a.m and shone me with its first beam, I saw a new world opening its door to me.
Soon I rediscovered another aspect of my computer – programming. As I rode the tides of addiction, I also gained knowledge from the swelling sea of the internet, through which I met new programmer friends, exchanged ideas or even worked together for the common goal of understanding the cultural impact of technology. Devoting most my spare time to this aspect set off my passion, which burnt more fiercely than that of the game! Sharing my simple-functioned programs with friends, satisfaction enveloped me tighter than the Mysterious Land ever did. I kept learning the BASIC and other programming languages improving my logical thought process for academics and acting as a catalyst for the study of Mathematics and Science. With a new sense of determination, I managed to rediscover my past hobbies in engineering and rekindle my passion for art. With this acceleration, I returned to be one of the top students in my class.
I shall never forget the power I got when I pressed the YES button on the uninstall menu. The strength I got that time, I believe, has never gone away.

This was the time I learnt the first lesson of finance from my father i.e. risk and return are proportionate. In 1998 when I was in the second year the China stock market crashed. But fortunately, my father had a well-diversified portfolio because of which our returns were protected from the downside risk. This was when I learnt the second principle of finance from my father i.e. diversification reces risk. While I understood these two principles intuitively, it proced in me a strong urge to learn and understand the complex theory behind the working of Finance. This, I believe, was a turning point in my career. I made up my mind to pursue a career in Finance and hence decided to do a Masters program in Business Administration.

As I was finishing college, my mother had both of her hips replaced with artificial ones because all of the cartilage in her hip joints had worn away and it was very painful for her to walk. I found it fascinating that engineers, orthopedic surgeons, and biologists had all worked together to design these artificial joints that completely transform. people's lives by giving them back pain-free mobility, and I knew at that moment that this was an area about which I wanted to learn more. In China these days, university graates who have not been lucky enough to settle into their dream jobs often look to graated studies as a way to kill the time that they cannot otherwise spend meaningfully. I am prepared to go against the social conventions by putting on hold a successful research career that promised to be even more successful. With eight years of proctive and highly valued practical research behind me, I now would like to revert to a more intellectual life so that I can conct more theoretical discourses.

When asked how to manage to mask remarkable statues, the French sculptor Auguste Rodin answered, 「I choose a block of marble and chop off whatever I don't need.(法國雕塑家羅丹說:「給我一塊大理石,把多餘的去掉。」)」 For me, life is just a block of marble---whether the marble can be turned into a remarkable statue depends on your natural talents, diligence and a sense of ty. During over four years』 my college life, I have been dreaming of being a perfect female researcher so that I can enhance more young girls』 confidence in scientific research and encourage them to promote the development of science as men do. For Knowledge Itself Is Power. This is one of my favorite precepts and at this point in my life when I am about to complete my graation and my future spreads in front of me like a dream, this adage has never influenced my life more than this before.
For the past three years, my undergraate ecation has exposed me to the various sub-fields of Computer Science (CS). However, our syllabus has focused mainly on "traditional" CS topics, such as Operating systems and single-CPU systems. We have had barely a glimpse of the newer technologies that are likely to change the way computing is done in not-so-distant future. The desire to examine such subjects in greater detail is what has prompted me to opt for graate study. Due to the comprehensiveness of China』s「reform. and open」policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. As a senior at Beijing University majoring in Economics, I feel that my field is fundamental to the progress of my country. Yet, at the same time, I realize only too well that what I have learned as an undergraate is far from enough. Therefore, it is my desire to pursue a graate degree I Economics at your university. If accepted, my intended concentration would be Economic Development and Public Economics.

I wake up every morning to its rich scent. My parents cannot start the day with out it. I often wait in line and pay $3.85 to buy it. The senior lodge at my school is littered with empty Starbucks cups containing only the remnants of skim lattes, , and mocha frapuccinos. Coffee is a staple of American life that many take for granted, but few take the time to think about how they get it.
In the rural village of Cadillo in the Dominican Republic, the people』s livelihood depends on coffee. Rows of green coffee plants line steep hills and scatter the countryside. The people there pick and sell the coffee beans but receive little profit for their hard work.
During the week I spent in Cadillo playing , I witnessed the poverty these coffee farmers enre. Their homes are small and dark, furnished with only a few wooden chairs, a table and a few beds. There is no lawyers and electricity in Cadillo and I especially remember the emptiness of the village at night, when I could only vaguely see the faces I illuminated with my flashlight. I can still see the shiny metal bowl in which they used to bathe, and Jose, a neighbor who was missing several teeth because like most people in Cadillo, he lacks a toothbrush and could not afford a .
These images still burn in my mind, but it was the people of Cadillo more than anything who opened my eyes to the importance of social justice. Before I met them it was just a concept I heard about a few times a year at church when a missionary would come to speak about the poor people in Africa or South America and explain why it was our ty to help them. These people were far removed. A small fraction of my weekly allowance, once a year, and I could remove them from my mind. After living for a week with a family in Cadillo, however, I understood for the first time that it was real people leading these lives.
The family I stayed with there took me in as part of their family and gave me a taste of their life. I remember my Dominican father, Barilla』s face as he played guitar and how he laughed kindly when I struggled to play the chords he had taught me. I could feel the warmth and sincerity of my Dominican mother, Marsela, when she sat and talked with me about my home and family after a long day of work. And I will always remember how much fun I had playing catch or blowing bubbles with their two children, Jendi and Andisco.
I will not forget the images I saw or the people I encountered. They made me realize that my work does not end with the school I helped build, the holes I helped dig, or the roads I helped widen. They showed me that there are real, wonderful people being treated unjustly and that I cannot sit back and let that happen. I cannot be silent when I know that people are getting rich off the coffee Barilla receives so little for. It is my responsibility to be active, to teach what I have learned, to fight injustices in my community and the world.
I am not sure if I will ever visit Cadillo again but I do know that I can continue what I started there. I can tell people what I saw and spread awareness about injustice in the world. I can volunteer in my own community to help make changes at home and fundraise to aid third world countries. And tomorrow, after I wake up to the smell of fresh coffee, I can make a difference.

To live a meaningful life everyday; to continually pursue my predetermined worthwhile goals. -My view of life.
Could I put myself in the life-threatening working environment? Could I sacrifice my life for the benefits of others? Some people may laugh at my crazy question. To me, that is a serious question I have come a long way to find my answer. “I am not sure whether it is worth to answer”; “What is the true meaning of that question?”
When I was a young child, I watched a soap opera that was about court. I was deeply impressed by the judge’s calmness and the lawyer’s eloquence and resource that were showed in this opera. From then on, I hoped to study law some day. Fortunately, I performed well in entrance examination and got enrolled into xx University. Then I chose law as my major without hesitation. At university, I studied hard and got GPA 3.4. What’s more, I broadly read all kinds of books, including philosophy, history etc. My teachers’ instruction strengthened my understanding of law and makes me understand the significance of law to a country. From my studies, I had a lot of fun and got more interested in law. Moreover, I actively participated in practice in holidays from common company to law firm and tried to apply the theory I had learned into practice.
This summer, I had my internship in counselor department in xxx Group Co Ltd which was involved in a business contract dispute, which was submitted to China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission for arbitration. As a representative of the requested applicant, I took part in the evidence collection in the early arbitration stage and clearly explained why the 5% balance of goods was not paid on time. After knowing the whole case, I visited my teacher, an Arbitration Law professor, and listened to her opinions. Realizing the counterpart didn’t completely implement their contract ty, I gave reasons as follows: First, the counterpart company didn’t mention bearing issue, which caused that the delivered machines couldn’t be put into the plant because of the disqualification of workshop. Thus overhaul was necessary, which delayed proction and resulted loss. Based on these reasons, the counterpart didn’t completely carry out its ty, so our party did not pay the balance on time. During this time, I found out the evidence and pictures that attested counterpart did not give reasonable suggestion and service, and made a statement in the court. Finally, the arbitration turned out that counterpart compensated our loss, in which the arbiters invoked the reasons that I stated. They had a panel made up of 3 lawyers and 5 company representatives as agents while we just had 3 persons—two lawyers and me. Under such condition, I was able to cooperate with them and clearly stated my opinions without any nervousness, which got their respect. This matter greatly inspired my enthusiasm on study.
In addition, I took part in the contact draft in several companies. In the process, when I met a lot of problems, I often turned to my teachers for help, which made good impression on them. As I cherished each practice, I studied my specialty and English hard. With effective study method and diligence, I did well both in English and law, which helped me a lot to get scholarship every year. On the other hand, my practice inspired me to study. In practice, I exercised my legal knowledge. I also realize the big gap between theory and its application—sometimes I have master the rules but I didn’t know how to use it in actual case. My practice experiences have not only strengthened what I learned but have supplied new knowledge for me, which is good for my future study and career.
In my study and practice, I admired outstanding lawyers’ eloquence and jumping thinking more and more. However, in China, most of lawyers come from theory study and those who can perform well in practice are insufficient. Moreover, after the China’s entrance to WTO, there are a lot of problems with Chinese law. I think, my internship experience is not enough. In practice, I could combine substantive law with proceral law to analyze case, but I still feel my theoretical foundation is not solid enough. What’s more, comparably speaking, the chances that I have to initiatively study and practice are not a lot. Thereby, I am eager to study further abroad to know more about foreign law, thoughts and lawyer career so that I am able to stand out in fierce competition.
Due to the comprehensiveness of China’s “reform and open” policies, economics plays an increasingly important role in the development of its global position. Though more and more companies built, management of companies cannot catch up with the development of the companies. Management is a burgeoning field in China, so I hope I can acquire more modern knowledge on management in England.
The roots of my strong interest in business can be traced back to my childhood. My father was among the first of China’s new breed of modern entrepreneurs. As a young girl, it was inspirational hearing about his business ventures, and meeting the varied and interesting circle of entrepreneurs. My mother was also involved in business as an accountant, helping him with simple calculations. And so it was early in my life that I hoped I, also, would someday be able to enter the realm of business.
With the time of growing up, I preferred reading books to satisfy my curiosity. I never ceased to contemplate over the questions I encountered. Subjects on business and management became a special fascination to me and my knowledge of psychology as well as interest in this field was increasing rapidly.
As a high school student in China, I had to concentrate on the College Entrance Examination (CEE), even so, books not related to the exams were never excluded from my life. Unfortunately when sitting in the exam in June, 2001, I was so nervous that I didn’t score well in the CEE exam. I enrolled in the department of Computer Science in Zhejiang College of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Any attempt to persuade myself to focus on my major turned out to be a failure at the beginning of my college life. After several terms, I realized that I would never be interested in being a programmer or an engineer. At that moment, I lost my direction and objectives.
My persistence in reading saved me from the dark situation. As a matter of fact, I enjoyed reading the books included Encyclopedia American, and some books about management by Peter F.Drucker. I began to notice something interesting: Why some companies can proce more than others? Why some company can sell more than others? Why some companies can build up but others cannot when facing the same difficulties?
With the questions in my mind, I started to read many relevant books. I was lucky to read the book “Jack: Straight from the Gut”by Jack Welch, in Which John A. Byrne makes a clear illustration that the management is important for a company. When I was a junior, I ran a bookshop by myself near my school. I should manage not only the finance in the shop but also the employees in my shop even made some strategies to enlarge the business in my shop to hold on the run the shop. From this, my interpersonal skills and the capacity in business has been greatly developed, definitely I was increasingly interested in what I was doing. By December, 2003, I had finally determined to take business management as my career instead of IT. To accumulate more relevant knowledge, I strived to gain more practical work experience in some big companies.
Fortunately, as a senior, I began by concting an internship in the Architecture Company in Zhejiang Province. Over six months, I worked as an assistant of the manager to harmonize the relationship between the different departments in this company and to draft some management system, which broadened my perspective of management conditions and business performance in different instries. The experience showed me that management is much more important than that of I thought in big companies. After graation, I continued my work in this company. In May, 2005, the company offered me an opportunity to participate in an training program held by a famous management school. Through in-depth discussions with teachers and students in the classes, they all encouraged me to pursue my future career in management field because of my intellectual ability and the brand new ideas I mentioned.
During the short period of training, I realized that pursuing a higher degree in management is a wise choice for me now. Lancaster, with its excellence in management, represents the perfect fit for my needs. In your challenging environment, I can build the required foundation of knowledge related to management to achieve my goals. I am firmly convinced that your admission will be my first step of success. With this in mind, I hereby submit my application, and await your favorable reply.
