就在最近,英國牛津大學的德莫特·奧黑爾(Dermot O'Hare)教授和志貴·埃德曼·曾(Shik Chi Edman Tsang)教授與清華大學的李娟教授合作,意外發現實驗室常用的惰性保護氣體N2可以作為加速反應的加速器。在二氧化鈦負載釕催化劑(Ru/TiO2)的作用下,N2可以顯著降低對甲基苯酚加氫脫氧(HDO)的活化能,提高催化活性。相關研究結果發表在《自然催化》雜志上。

參照上述反應條件,作者利用團隊開發的催化體系設計了兩組加氫脫氧實驗。反應溫度最初設定在220℃,在釕/二氧化鈦催化劑的作用下,只需1巴H2即可順利進行。他們發現在該體系中摻入N2後,反應的轉化率和甲苯生成的選擇性可以進一步提高。這種現象非常令人驚訝,因此N2似乎在促進催化過程中發揮了一定的作用。
