老師們,同學們:

大家下午好!我今天演講的題目是《無人需要的數字》。

愛爾蘭作家伯明罕年輕時曾在一所鄉村小學做過多年的教師。那所學校既偏僻又破舊,校舍是由廢棄的農場改造而成的,學生最多時也沒過百,一片沒有任何體育設施的空地是孩子們課間嬉戲玩耍的樂園。加上伯明罕,學校共有三名教師,這兩名教師因為忍受不了學校的艱苦和荒涼,相繼離開了學校,只留下伯明罕這唯一的教師兼校長堅守在學校。伯明罕有一顆愛孩子的心,將自己的所學所悟傳授給一個個天真爛漫的學生,是他求之不得的事情。他吃住都在學校,環境惡劣,條件艱苦,除了學生,一年難得見到幾個人,這些對他來說都不算什麼,最令他受不了的是,每年他都得幾次徒步40里地到當地的教育部門送各種報表。

有些報表在他看來純屬浪費時間,毫無一點用處。比如有一個報表要求每個學校每年報送一次校舍的面積,自從伯明罕來到這個鄉村學校,校舍面積從來就沒有過一平方米的增減。伯明罕有一次負氣地拒送這張表格,沒過多久,教育部門就派人光顧了這所幾乎被人遺忘的學校,警告伯明罕說,如果再不按時報送他們所要求的各種報表,他們就將關閉這所學校。從那以後,伯明罕雖然心中充滿不滿,但再也不敢怠慢。前幾年,伯明罕都是如實地填寫那個不變的數字,表格送上去後就如同石沉大海,再無任何反應。這一年,伯明罕突發奇想,決定變化一下數字,他將校舍面積乘二以後得出的數字填在了報表上,報上去後仍然沒有得到任何反饋。第二年,他將數字在上年的基礎上又增加了一倍,仍然是沒人理睬。此後數年,他都如法炮製,一次增加一倍,不斷膨脹的數字絲毫沒有引起教育部門的注意。直到有一年,伯明罕望著自己填寫的數字,決定計算一下,如果自己的學校真有這么大面積校舍的話,那究竟有多大。計算出的結果令他大吃一驚,他上報的「學校」太大了,不僅遠遠大於聖保羅大教堂,而且遠大於愛爾蘭的任何一所學校,甚至還大於劍橋大學和牛津大學。伯明罕暗自猜測,校舍面積不斷擴大符合教育官員的要求,所以雖然沒有任何反饋,但也沒人來學校找事。

如果將校舍面積縮小,教育部門會不會派人來查訪呢?伯明罕將大得驚人的校舍面積縮小了一半報了上去,幾個月過去了,仍然沒人理睬。以後幾年,伯明罕都成倍縮小數字,直到他告別學校,都沒有見到教育官員的影子。伯明罕最終明白,他所上報的大大小小的數字,其實根本沒有一個人會哪怕是心不在焉地瞄上一眼,沒有人需要這個數字,他們需要的只是那張報表,不,他們連報表也不需要,需要報表的是流於形式的所謂的條款、規章、規定或制度。

多年以後,伯明罕在一篇文章中提到了這段經歷,他說:「我漸漸認識到:條款、規章、規定或制度並不可惡,可惡的是那些隨意制訂並機械而刻板地使用它們的官員們。這段經歷給我的最大幫助是,它讓我實實在在、真真切切地領悟到了——什麼叫形式主義,什麼叫官僚?!」

馬雲在沃頓商學院、麻省理工和哈佛商學院演講
美國費城和波士頓消息,2002年4月15日] 阿里巴巴首席執行官馬雲日前應邀在美國沃頓(Wharton)商學院、麻省理工和哈佛商學院做了精彩的演講。

在沃頓(Wharton)商學院,馬雲做了題為《加入WTO之後的中國企業界:中國企業家的前景》。此次活動是馬雲第三次來到這所國際著名的商學院。他向這里的學生們講述在中國成為一位企業家所需面臨的種種挑戰、阿里巴巴奇跡般的崛起、以及如何在互聯網的低潮中成功地讓阿里巴巴逆風上揚的經歷。

接下來,馬雲在麻省理工參加了由該校中國學生學者聯合會舉辦的研討會。其他參加此次研討會的知名人士還包括中國證監會首席顧問Anthony Neoh,通用動力中國公司前主席兼首席執行官大衛·C·王。馬雲同時還和慕名而來的麻省理工學院斯隆商學院的MBA學生見了面。在會上,馬雲滿懷激情的向聽眾描述了他獨特個人經歷和商業理念,還針對在座的商業人士關於在中國進行商業活動的問題給出了很多建議。

在全球著名的哈佛商學院,馬雲做了題為《中國企業走出國門》的主題演講。這是他在哈佛的第二次主題演講,對中國企業在海外如何進行成功的擴張,企業走向世界對管理層的經營理念形成的挑戰,中國公司如何成功進入國際市場並樹立品牌形象等問題進行了深入淺出的探討。其他參加此次研討的知名人士還有中國銀行行長劉明康、BEA系統公司的首席執行官Alfred Chuang、JP摩根運營主管和負責中國投資銀行事務的總裁丹尼斯·朱和其他來自麻省理工斯隆商學院和哈佛商學院的資深教授

12月17日,馬雲專程抵京,出席主題為「信息時代的管理」的哈佛-清華高層經理研修講座。哈佛商學院與清華經管學院對國內知名企業走訪調研,編制了真實鮮活的中國企業案例並選入哈佛MBA管理案例庫,阿里巴巴的經營管理實踐曾連續兩屆入選哈佛教案,並三次受到邀請與哈佛-清華高層經理研修學員交流。

現場調查發現:有90%以上的與會學員對阿里巴巴的遠見、創新、戰略、團隊等重要指標評了高分,有不少人甚至評了滿分。參加今年研修項目的學員都是來自各某種名企業的重量級人員,平均工作經歷15年以上,公司年銷售額達52億美金。

馬雲與高層經理學員對話實錄:

馬雲:阿里巴巴這兩年越做越好,這兩年變化非常大。從2001年100多名員工發展到現在1200多員工,會員數達到250多萬家。無論是從綜合指標還是單項指標評定,我們在全球B2B領域排名中是遙遙領先的,第二名同行距離我們很遠,第二名的會員數還不到10萬。

在贏利方面, 2002年的阿里巴巴全年目標是贏利一塊錢,今年的目標是每天收入100萬元人民幣,實際上,今年全年的現金贏利將超過1億元。

有人問,阿里巴巴做得不比任何一家上市公司差,為什麼不上市?那是因為我們現在不急於上市,我們還要做得更加完善,把客戶服務得更好。

在未來三年,我們有這樣三個目標:第一,成為中國客戶最滿意的公司,我們從流程到戰略制定都圍繞客戶第一的原則,為此,我們今年把九大價值觀的第九條:「尊重與服務」改為「客戶第一」,提升為第一條價值,並定義為「客戶永遠是對的」。第二,員工是第二位的,我們要做中國最佳僱主公司;第三,股東第三,從明天1月1日開始,無論是財務、法律或是其他,公司將嚴格按排美國上市公司的標准去做,阿里巴巴要做對投資者最透明的公司。

學員A:阿里巴巴與其他類似的服務企業不同,他背後沒有傳統行業的支持,而是純粹的新經濟,是完全在網路上建立起來的。阿里巴巴與競爭對手比較,優勢是什麼?

馬雲:前兩年有人說:***(一家國際貿易行開設的網站)一定行,因為它有傳統行業做支撐,阿里巴巴一定不行,而且阿里巴巴上沒有完整的線下貿易鏈條,而***有完整的鏈條。但是阿里巴巴卻活下來了,那家網站死掉了。

阿里巴巴成功是因為我們有長期的戰略,與眾不同的模式,與主流不相同的運營者,就像微軟的成功、中國的格蘭士微波爐的成功,他們都創造了全新的經營方式。這種創新的方式是現有的成熟大企業不用的,即使用,他也不會完全的採用,而新的企業沒有舊的套路,成功的機率會大很多。

現在阿里巴巴網上有強大的信息流,無論你要買任何東西,到阿里巴巴來你都會查到。我們在網上建設了巨大的買方和賣方的貿易市場,這是我們第一個模式 ,叫「相會在阿里巴巴」,商人有個心理,買方總是要找到最好的賣家,賣家也總是想找到最好的買家。

講師:對阿里巴巴的「遠見」有什麼觀點?

學員觀點A:阿里巴巴的模式是創新的,他們看到中國有大批的製造商和國外大批的采購商,利用網路信息豐富的特性,首創了阿里巴巴模式。

馬雲:阿里巴巴做得不錯,原因在於與美國等國家的B2B不同,他們是為企業省錢省時間,在中國阿里巴巴是幫助中小企業賺錢。

在任何事情開始之前我們都要想好能為客戶帶來什麼樣的價值,只有這樣才能走得長。當年我們建立這個市場,那時我們知道中國入世是時間的問題,不是能不能入的問題。中國入世的頭幾年是以出口為導向,未來三、四年中國一定會以進口為導向。我們未來的一個戰略是幫助中國企業進口國外產品,國外的貨物能賣到中國來,我更看好中國未來五年進口的力量。

在中國企業出口服務領域,我們最強。英國首相來中國特別提出要和阿里巴巴見見,日本的經濟省把我們當作第一合作夥伴,現在我們在美國、日內瓦的辦事處都是在和進口商打交道。我們的模式不僅僅是中國對國際出口,國際向中國進口,除此以外,我們印度對南美,美國和日本之間的貿易也會在阿里巴巴上展開。

電子商務劃分三個階段,阿里巴巴目前做的是第一階段「信息流」,第二階段是資金流,第三是物流。在網上還沒建立信用之前,不會有人真正在網上做生意,所以我們就在網上建立誠信體系。銀行現在正在著手進行資金流的體系建立 ,我認為三年之後可以嘗試在網上做些交易,但是現在不行。

如果阿里巴巴要真正解決交易的問題,從中取得利益,首先要過誠信這一關。沒有誠信不會有人在網上做生意。所以這兩年建立誠信是我們的主要方向。到目前為止已經有三萬多家企業在我們網站上申請了認證服務。加入WTO後,中國有100多萬家企業可以或計劃出口,目前只有不到4000家企業成為阿里巴巴中國供應商,還有很大的空間。

講師:對於阿里巴巴的「戰略」有什麼觀點?

學員A:阿里巴巴服務的是中小企業,沒有阿里巴巴時,中小企業可能會通過各種傳統的途徑做生意。有阿里巴巴後,企業只要繳納極少的費用就可以通過阿里巴巴與全球做生意。

學員B:阿里巴巴的眼光盯在客戶身上,不會花很多精力對付競爭對手。這樣他們的工作重心是全心服務於企業。大中企業通常都有很好的信息系統,而中小企業的信息來源有限,現在阿里巴巴出現,為中小企業提供了很好的渠道,這些信息對這些中小企業非常有吸引力。

馬雲: 在阿里巴巴,客戶的利益最重要,其次是員工,之後是股東。在公司的經營結構圖上,我們是一個倒金字塔,最上層是客戶,其下是一線員工,再下是中層幹部,最底層是CEO。我花時間最多的是在世界各地奔走,和客戶交流。客戶的滿意度、續簽率對企業非常重要。美國的一家B2B網站股票一下子從200多美元一下子跌到十幾塊,他的核心問題是續簽率不到5%,阿里巴巴的客戶不會因為銷售人員的水平高付給我們一年5000美元元的服務費,而是因為這5000美元確實為企業帶來好處,我們有78%的客戶去年交5000美元,今年交8000美元,因為我們的買家數是賣家數的10倍。

第二,成為阿里巴巴的客戶後,必須接受培訓。明年一季度我們將成立阿里巴巴學院,培訓公司幹部,培訓客戶,公司和客戶一起成長。現在每個月都有客戶到我們公司來接受培訓,或者我們到各個城市,把客戶集中起來進行培訓。培訓內容不光是對阿里巴巴的使用,還有管理藝術、中小企業的成長等等,在這些課程上我們已經具備開辦阿里巴巴學院的條件。

學員D:請問阿里巴巴目前的服務,包括廣告、交易或信用服務等是以哪一種形式收入為主,業績增長如何,預期目標是什麼?

阿里巴巴目前有中文站、國際站、日文站和淘寶網等四家網站,買家39萬,目前,我們贏利的一個主要來源是幫助中國企業出口的國際網站。今天在網上把賣「麥克風」的消息放上去,來自全球的幾千名麥克風買家都會和你聯系。這類的企業就是我們「中國供應商」用戶。每年我們收取5000到8000元美金的費用,我們的公司員工會到企業里去考察,只有你符合出口的條件,你才能成為我們的服務對象。

有180萬家企業在阿里巴巴中國網站上進行國內貿易,我們提供的第三方認證的「誠信通」服務,我們會在網上提供誠信的記錄。三年之後有企業找你做生意,第一句要問:你和誰做過生意,評論如何?有無不良記錄?

謝謝劉社長的邀請,謝謝各位企業家朋友,我進來的時候聽見老牛在講寬闊的草原,聽得我熱血沸騰,他說陸地上最開闊的是草原,我一下想像起來,我想下次的時候跟老牛去草原養牛。

聽了前面三位演講以後突然忘了自己要講什麼了,艾豐講的是領導,艾豐講的是讓別人替你去干,別人替你設計,別人替你寫。黃總講的是先網路了一下,又Google了一下,就沒有雅虎一下,所以我就一直在等什麼時候說到雅虎一下,他沒有說。但是我覺得陸地上最開闊的是草原,人類社會最具想像力的是互聯網。艾豐會長講,我們不燒一點點煤,整個阿里巴巴公司覺得挺驕傲的,我們創造了很多稅收,但是我們每天用的電是一點點,我們所有的成本就是人,還有房租和水電。所以我自己覺得,如果說草原是最大的陸地,互聯網一定是最具想像的未來的窗戶。我是杭州人,杭州人跟上海人永遠是對在一起的,在上海人眼裡我們都是鄉下人。五六年以前我先把總部放在上海,當時在淮海路租了一個很大的辦公室,裝扮的漂漂亮亮的,結果一年以內特別累心,招人招不到。他們說阿里巴巴是哪兒的公司,幾乎沒有人理我們。最後我們決定從北京撤到上海,先選定北京,最後覺得還是回杭州去。當時我自己安慰了一下,我說在北京和上海我們是500個孩子中的一個,在杭州我們是杭州的唯一的孩子,所以至少我們在杭州能夠受到更多的關注和重視,因為那時候還小。所以對上海我們有一種感覺,就怕我們這樣的創新公司,因為上海比較喜歡跨國公司,上海喜歡500強,只要是500強就有發展,但是如果是民營企業剛剛開始創業,最好別來上海。現在想想定位是正確的,如果很小跑到上海來確實不好,在當地還可以。

所以現在總結的經驗,創辦一個企業,搞出一個企業,在全國各地,只要有商機,只要有人,只要有資源都能做出來,但是做大做好一定需要一個規范的城市,一定需要一個各種各樣資源、環境都配置的非常好的城市,上海是可以把你搞大,其它地方是可以把你搞出來。

我關注了一下這幾年上海讓我刮目相看最重要的一點是改變上海的是那些不會講上海話的上海人。真正的上海的改變是因為那些會講洋文的,會講我們這些說不準上海話,但是很想學上海話,我們到上海發現上海做大量房地產,各種基礎建設設施,各種投資的絕大部分都不是上海人,影響當地城市發展的都不是當地本土人而是外地來的人,大部分地方都是這樣。杭州大都市不應該比上海樓誰高,不應該跟美國比路誰寬,而是胸懷誰大,任何一個城市怎麼包容容納外地人來創業。所以我想上海有今天,是因為有很多不會講上海話的上海人融進這個城市,幫助這個城市的成長。所以我覺得一個城市第一要投資的是人,第二要建立良好的投資環境,第三一個城市的激情非常重要。所以這幾年上海的變化,也是讓我感慨萬千,三年以前我再度來到上海,那時候我說上海不能超過9個人,搞一個辦公室一樣,因為人家說,我們在國外有一點點影響,人家老是說你們在哪裡?我們說我們在杭州,杭州在哪裡?我們說離上海180公里以外的地方。總覺得上海沒有辦事處不行,所以我們搞了9個人。但是後來幾年阿里巴巴發現以後,我們幫助大量中國企業出口的時候,老外跟我們說,沒有上海的企業估計你們中國出口供應商檔次比較低。所以這三年以內我們從9個人發展到現在200個人,現在我們很有信心,在未來兩年以內希望有2000人在上海參與阿里巴巴的建設。所以我們覺得任何一個城市首先投資人,我是杭州人,對上海總有一點不太好的感覺,但是冷靜下來還是想一想,不得不對上海佩服,全國來說上海人的綜合素質水平比較高,到了上海如果不會用上海人企業永遠做不大。第二是環境,我覺得上海是中國大陸上國際國化、規范化最好的一個城市,所以一個企業要在做小的時候為了求生存可能會想各種各樣的辦法,但是要想做大,跟國際接軌,毫無疑問必須要先到上海。就像大海里游泳,先得在游泳池游一下才能進入大海。上海這個城市越來越具備國際競爭力,這是我自己的看法。還有城市的激情、變化、改變,我記得大概在92年左右,上海剛剛開始說要進行開發浦東,那天晚上剛好在看電視,中央說要把浦東開發好,電視上一掃過浦東全是破房子,我想這個估計是完了,要搞成這個樣子太難。但是十多年下來,上海浦東的發展,我們出去參加各種論壇,心裡感覺都不一樣,上海代表一個新的重要,上海代表一個全世界新的一個蓬勃發展的地方。我覺得中國互聯網的發展會讓這個結局改變,印度是在強盛發展,我記得四五年以前別人都在講WTO,大家都在講WTO進來了是「狼」來了,我在國外的感覺是中國加入WTO以後,很多跨國企業家因為中國加入WTO,所以中國這頭「狼」來了,所以特別可怕。再過幾年以後去搜索,我想出來的最多的是中國這個城市。如果按照西方的標准去討論的話,中國跟印度在一起永遠是吃虧的。兩年以前我參加過一次中印基金論壇,中國就我一個去,我也不知道為什麼就一個,他們每個人侃侃而談,講制度,講體系,我也聽暈過去了,我講了幾句他們也聽暈過去了。游戲規則按照他們訂的時候,怎麼做都會暈過去。

兩個月以前,我在舊金山,在一次全世界的互聯網大會上有一個分析師問我,怎麼看待十年以後互聯網發展?我自己覺得,互聯問沒有歷史,電子商務也沒有歷史,我們這一代的人最有運氣的時候是我們這一代人可以創造歷史,去改變歷史,我們今天所做的一切將會影響50年、80年以後人類社會生活的方方面面。也有人問我說,人類社會上什麼樣的商業模式是最好的?我這兒跟大家做一個探討,什麼商業模式是最好的商業模式?我說國家的模式是最好的模式。全世界任何一個國家的企業,不管做的多大,美國GE很大,波音很大,但是跟美國政府比差太遠了,每年GDP的收入怎麼都比不過,但是國家是不可能創建的。今天到沙漠上搞一個國家,別人馬上給你滅了。但是今天在互聯網人類社會在形成這樣一種新的體系,國家最早是怎麼建立起來的?在河邊買賣東西,最後生意市場越來越好以後,有人開始吵架,最後說找一個人來做公證人,然後出現了法官,然後出現了法律,最後公證人說了以後還不行,有警察,再進一步又怕別人搶我們,建立了軍隊,這就是國家體系建立了,法院、法官、軍隊。今天在互聯網上確實在形成這樣的東西,互聯網上是可以建立起一個制度,你最強大就可以建立制度,你最強大就有警察,就有軍隊,我覺得三四十年以後,全世界很多無數的企業,各個人類都會在虛擬社會上。而今天我們在網路游戲上面已經看到人類在五十年、三十年以後一定會生活在虛擬空間里。30年以前比爾·蓋茨說,30年以後人類社會每個辦公桌上都有一台電腦,那時候講的時候人家說他是瘋子。我認為,30年以後人類社會各個組織機構都會在社會上生存。我判斷十年以後,全世界十大互聯網公司中一定有三家是中國的,而世界三強之中有一家一定來自中國,十年以後世界500強的企業中一定有一家來自於中國的民營企業,而這些民營企業靠製造業比較難必須靠技術搞創新。所以我自己越來越相信這一點。我希望中國民營企業能夠有這樣的機會,真正憑自己的實力能夠打進世界500強。如果有這樣的機會,最好的場地毫無疑問是上海。謝謝大家。

Ten years later there will be more successful business in Peru than today. The world is coming better. It depends whether you see the opportunities. Today the opportunity is the internet. Today the opportunity is the globalizations and today the opportunity is the financial crisis. Every crisis means something. I think today the world is moving from big company to small company. Remember thirty four years ago, Martin Luther King said I have a dream----plan is beautiful. Today we have the United States the president Obama is bright and I tell you: small is beautiful. Ten years later small business will be the real leader of the global economy. And I strongly believe that this is what our business focused on. And I again and again told the team: 阿里巴巴 is of small business, by the small business and for the small business. Because we believe small business are the future. Last century because of warm and model all the business you should have large scale, large size, large amount of the resources to be concerned. This world people start to use the indivial, unique and flexible. And I strongly believe that, let us focus on small. Small really makes you been. Small business while the size is small but we have big dreams.
The next thing is that never ever forget and give up your dreams. I know most people here like me small business will face a lot of challenges and a lot of opportunities. But never ever forget your first day love. That is the beautiful. Do not change if there are nine rabbits on the ground. Do not change yourself. Do not change the rabbits. Catch one rabbit. And I would like to give the suggestion is that when doing business, not think about today, and think about ten years later. Do business you always think about what is going to happen ten years later, five years later instead of the next day. If you think about the next day, you will always be disappointed. And today I still have a dream, I think about ten years later what 阿里巴巴 can do. On our ten years anniversary, I told the twenty thousand employees of 阿里巴巴, we will build a platform that can help ten million Assamese around the world to survive. We want to create a hundred million jobs for the world. We want to make one billion people consume online. This is the dream we have to stick to it. And which is the most important is that big companies must have small dreams and big companies must have the small goals. Small companies must have big dreams and small companies must have long-term goals. So if big companies have big dreams, they can go nowhere. If small companies have small dreams, they can go nowhere. So do the opposite. Big companies have small dreams and small goals you move fast and steady. If small companies have big dreams and long-term goals, you will last long.
And last but the most important, I share with you again is the entrepreneur. Today is very difficult, tomorrow is much more difficult, but the day after tomorrow is beautiful. Most people die tomorrow evening, and you will never see the sunshine of the day after tomorrow if you do not work hard today. Only we believe that life is tough. Life is tough for everybody. If he can survive, I can survive. If he can be successful, there is no reason I cannot be successful. It is all about keeping on your dreams. Nobody know,my company did not know that,I am gonna spend one year here. Cause people asked why you are here?Are you here for getting yahoo? 「NO」 Everybody was very sensitive when I said 「,I am gonna spend one year here」 ,and the I just come here I am tired ,too tired in the past sixteen year,I start my business ,when I started 1994 internet ,I got crazy about the internet,,gave up my job in the teaching, I called myself like blind man riding on the back of a blind tiger, jumping around,and still KIKI ,still surviving,and then join the govement organization for sixteen months, not successful ,started alibaba 1999. and we built up the alibaba,we are luck enough,we have the taobao ,we have the alipay we have ali cloud computing,and the so many things,after 12years,I say:」I need some time to rest」 , especially,this year,so difficult for me , I did not expect. Per 12 years was china call the 「本命年「. I talked to lots of venture capital,and I remember a few days ,I drop by Menlo park,I was rejected by so many venture capital, when talked about alibaba startup,they looked at the stranger,」what」 ,」what are you talking about?I went back to china,with nothing,no money, nobody invested me,but I』m full of confident,I saw America dream.At that time ,1999,I walked on the high 「沒聽清」,every evening full of cars in the park of company,Sunday full of car,people work day and night,This is something ,I believe it』s gonna happen in china,without getting any venture capital,but I think ,I went back china with America dream and we started the business there,and after 12 years,you know, a lot of things happen,we built up the B2B,nobody believed the B2B will work ,because the B2B at that time with aliba ,I don』t know still there. 「ariba .com」,」broadvision」,」commerce one」 this is very famous B2B company. People said :」how can you do B2B in china. Because B2B in USA focus on big company ,they focus on buyer,and we believe that three is no big company in china,and I don』t see, in the short term, china will have lots of big company,because big company is only SOE,SOE ,they do not the ecommerce, they need govement policy.so we focus on small business,we believe china,the small business ,the private sector are the future.so we focus on that, and the B2B in usa ,they focus. They want to help the buyer save the cost ,save the time.we believe:」don』t don』t teach the SME,don』t teach the small business how to save the cost.because know much better than you do. You shound help them how to make money.so we focus on helping small business,we focus on helping them make money ,sell things abroad.Very difficult to do business,at that time,but after 12 years,we got more than 58 millions small business around the world using our service.that model is not very successful,compare to 「tencent 「」」,.we did not make that much money,like online gaming,but we can sleep well in the evening, because the money we made not online gaming, the money we made is helping small business survive, get business opportunity which I fell very proud of that, and today , as always,I never fell proud of how much money we made,I fell proud of how much impact we can help others,especially small business,before the history of internet,no company can help over 50 millions SME,today we are trying.andf I fell proud of that this is the first company,and people said :」jack,if you make alibaba successful,that means :」you are pulling a million ton sheep on the top of the Himalayas and I said :」yes,we will carry that thing down」 and we did. The second company call taobao ,and everybody said :」oh my god ,you are competing with ebay. And luck ,just luck,thre are lots of can be disscuss in the future. Today ,people always write about the successful story about alibaba. And I really don』t think we are so smart.we made so many mistake.we were so stupid at that time.so I think someday the book I personnally really want to write about is alibaba 1001 mistakes. That』s the things people should remember ,should learn. If you want to learn 「how the other people succeed,it』svery difficult.thre arelots of luck things at there. But if you want to learn 「 how people fail 「,you will benefit a lot,and I always like to read those book talking about 「how people fail」,because,if you look into it any company theiy fail,the reason why they fail almost the same,and that really matters, so taobao succeed,and then we have the alipay,because everybody said:」china oh ,no credit system, banking is terrible, logistics is terrible. I believe 5 years later, china will have more internet users than USA. people said 「No」 , I said :」well ,you have 300 millions population,china 1.3 billions ,right! If you guys have 400 millions internet users,without any people die, keep on having baby ,, it take 50 years , we need 5 years. it』s just time issue, right !. let』s wait and see, today we have more users ,today people say :」why your buy capability is low, let』s see about 5 years later. 5 year later,today,people only spend 200 RMB per month,5 years later,this guy will spend 2000. and we have patients, we are young,you know, my people only 26 average age, they are young. let』s wait for the future. So ,alipay,was just like very ,at that time people said :」it』s stupid 「沒聽清「 service. John wants to buy things from Stevens, John just not want to 「沒聽清」the money . Stevens don』t want to send the pocts. So we open account, 「沒聽清「,ifyou happy ,」 「沒聽清「the money ,not happy,return poct,return money. People said :」 how stupid the model is」, well! We don』t care whether stupid or not stupid. we care whether the customer wanted or not,whether really meet the need of customer,, if it』s stupid, but after 7years ,we have more than 600 millions users, registered users in china using that. So stupid thing , if you improve it every day,it 『s gonna be very smart. And we believe that,and today , it 『s good ,and it』s growing, just like paypal,we are bigger than paypal right now , on transaction volume. And the last , most important is alicloud computing,and not like the other company ,they talk about cloud computing,they want to sell you the,hardware, software. We have nothing to sell you .we just want to compute our own datas. Because the datas we have from the SME,because the datas we have from consumer of taobao,datas from alipay. We believe in the future the world is going to data process in the world. How can we share the datas with others in a great way. Right! We spent most of effort in china, 50% people on taobao, they focus on checking the internet property issue, but there is bottle of wine, the cost is only 9 dollars, the people buy on the street is 300dollars,why is that? the channel, the advertisement, the TV show, why consumer should pay that much. So we cut that, and we made things change,so tell the consumer ,say :」this T-shirt , you buy on taobao,maybe 15 dollars, you buy on the shop,150 dollars. Not because taobao sell too cheap,because the shop sell too expensive.we should teach the consumer to be smart. And the third .very important, we saw so many factory in china ,especially in Canton,they are not company,they are not even a factory,they just OEM, they just manufacture,they don』t know who ar selling for them,they don』t know who are their customer,so anything come ,they all in trouble. So we just tell that manufacturing, you have to contact consumer youself, you have to sell youself, serve youself, then this real business,otherwise, you just a workshop. We are changing that, and I feel proud, we are honor, it』s not about money. We believe ,if you have 1 million dollars , you are the richman,when you have 10 million dollars,you are in trouble,you worry about the inflation,you start to invest, you get into trouble, when you have 1 billion, that 『s not you money,it』s the society』s trust,the shareholder ,the people believe you can spend this money smart than the government,you can spend the money better than others, so they give you the trust, how can you do this trust?
